Sally

I tried to transform her a little with my own  style, I hope it worked.

Anna and Elsa . . .

The newest addition to the Disney princess line up, recreated in my style, I will be colouring them but in a different colour palette. Looking forward to watching the movie and seeing how these sisters act off each other.

First page!

Thinking about doing a piece of animation on the killing of pilot whales in Faroe Isles. . . my interpretation of the sea shepherd logo.

Background design . . .

I tried my hand at creating a background for a third year project I've been asked to help out in.

More character design . . .

Just a quick sketchy page to give me some reference when drawing out my storyboard . . .

Captain Tremain

Pirate Captain!

Just a doodle/character design for my new storyboard project!

Me as a fire bender . . .

Start of digital artwork . . .

Just sketched out the basic outline and scanned it in. Need to work on my digital painting skills, feeling a little rusty . . .

Character design for 15 sec short . . .

Just wanted to do some character design before trying to create them on flash, which I'm still getting to grips with . . .

Centaur

Been playing Magic The Gathering recently and was inspired by mono green deck, which is mainly centaur based, to draw my own centaur.

Mulan-sketch

I'm starting to work on my digital painting skills again so it'll be a while before I upload my final image for this but heres the sketch I'll be working from.

Lady Caroline

This is just a pencil/pen sketchy character design for a storyboard I'm working on. She is supposed to be from the victorian era but I wanted to keep my style so she still looks a little modern and cutesy.

Just a doodle . . .

I always doodle when I'm working on the computer, it helps me think and stay focused on the task in hand.

More old artwork . . .

In this I was experimenting with my copics, seeing how they could be used to create a more watercolour look. As well as seeing how far I could push this medium in its conventional use.

Archer

This is one of my best pieces, I studied an image from a LARPing website but changed up the colour scheme and added my own style to the face as usual.

Claymore-Teresa

My favourite character from one of my favourite animus, never read the manga but looks really good! The head seems a little disjointed but I still like how I attempted to colour this one.

Ariel

I know it's been a long time coming but I finally finished it today.

Storyboarding

For a mini assignment we were given the task to create a storyboard where two object/characters meet, both of which are traveling at differing speeds. I had an idea originally but it changed as i sketched out the scene, this made it less structured but more naturalistic.

Final Merida?

Last one, for now, of Merida. I wanted to do a close up and have her hair frame her face. The angle was quite difficult but I think I pulled it off. I'm happy with this picture and I like the style the hair gives to the overall look.

More Merida!

Once again in copic markers and have already started a new one of her but just watched 'The Little Mermaid' so thinking about doing a couple of Ariel soon.

Life drawing

These are my first attempts at life drawing this year, I'd like to see much improvement over the coming sessions. The first image is five one minute sketches, the next a lengthier piece on sugar paper using a chalk as well as charcoal and finally a more abstract study in charcoal.

Queen Elinor!

As promised, Elinor. I sadly couldn't include the pattern on her dress as it would need to be a much larger image to get the detail needed. The pattern reminds me of klimt's paintings, it adds a lot of detail to a somewhat simple dress. After spending a year on a project about how the Pre-Raphaelites interpreted Arthurian Legend, I find the clothing in the style of that period much easier than modern clothing. I love drawing/colouring skin, hair and flowing fabric so Elinor is one of my favourite characters to draw.

Merida!

My favourite Disney Princess, Merida. Once again using copics, a HB pencil and a white gel pen to colour. This took a little longer to colour than I was expecting, the hair took almost 3 hours. I'll be drawing/colouring Elinor in the same way as practicing the style so I can include them in a short storyboard project I'm planning on doing.

Messy inking

I wanted to do something different. Using ink isn't something I do very often so need to practice more. I did use watercolour to add some much needed colour. I kept getting ink drips and splats so added more using watercolour as it is easier to create the look desired.

Sketchy sketches

I wanted to keep it simple for these studies so used only a HB pencil and a quick rough hand to try and create texture in these images. Even though this photo isn't the best, I quite like how part of it is not in focus. This almost mirrors a few of the photos I had taken and helps the drawings feel stylised and less polished. Which is a look I often revert to.

Some photos

I wanted to be inspired by whats around me so took at trip down into Falmouth yesterday. Looking at the dockland and atmospheric sea mist. I was inspired to create a story for Rapunzel and how she fit into this world of muted tones.

Almost finished . . .

Before colouring the image I was contemplating adding line work but decided against it as this was distract from the bright colours and over complicate this already busy image. I used copic markers, HB pencil and a white gel pen for highlights. This is my go to way of adding colour to my drawings but I will be using other materials in future studies such as ink, coloured pencils and oil pastel.

Rapunzel

This is the first page in my sketch book, it's not finished yet but just wanted to show some stages to my process.
